Golf benefit to aid Meals on Wheels, Santa’s Toyland

Two local groups with the mission of serving others in need will benefit this year from local golfers.

The Kingfisher Golf Association’s 11th annual benefit tournament will be held Saturday, May 2.

The four-person scramble will tee off at 9 a.m. at Kingfisher Golf Course.

All of the proceeds from the tournament will be distributed to two organizations: Kingfisher County Meals on Wheels and Santa’s Toyland.

“These are two wonderful groups who provide such a service to our community,” said Gary Wilson, club pro at the KGC who spearheads the tournament on behalf of the KGA.

“These organizations help feed our elderly and make sure families in need have better Christmases than they might have otherwise. We’re honored to be able to do a little bit to help support those missions.”

The fee to enter the tournament is $200 per team.

Unlike most golf scrambles, there will be no prize money distributed at the end.

All of the proceeds go directly to the organizations.

“That’s one of the great things about the golfers who take part in this, especially those who do it year after year,” Wilson said. “They know they aren’t going to win any money. They are just signing up to play 18 holes of golf with friends, have a good time and make sure our benefit is a success for those we are supporting.”

On top of the money generated from the tournament fees, the KGA and Kingfisher Women’s Golf Association annually step up to provide even more from their own funds.

Last year’s beneficiaries were Meals on Wheels and the Jacket Pantry.

The KGA presented checks of $3,750 to each and the KWGA another $2,500 to each, pushing the total to $12,500 donated.

“It’s just a small token of our appreciation,” Wilson said. “It’s the least we can do for all that they do.”
