Every stroke matters in golf and Monday proved that for the Kingfisher High School boys team.

Kingfisher shot a 646 over 36 holes to tie for third place in its 3A boys golf regional.

The top three teams (plus ties) move on to state meaning the Jackets have punched their ticket by the slimmest margin possible.

Kingfisher sat in fifth place after the first 18 holes with its 329.

The Jackets were behind Chisholm (294), Rejoice Christian (295), Perry (317) and Stroud (327).

KHS improved on its second round of the day with a 317, which was the third-best second round.

Chisholm eventually won the regional championship with a 595 total.

Rejoice Christian was the runner-up with a 603.

Perry fell off with a 332 and its 649 was three strokes shy of qualifying for state.

Kingfisher and Stroud came down to the final holes of the tournament and eventually ended up tied at 646.

A double-bogey by Stroud on the final hole secured Kingfisher’s spot at state.

Luciano Orozco led the Jackets with round of 73 and 75 for a 148.

That tied Orozco for fifth individually out of 51 total golfers.

After shooting an 80 on his first 18 holes, Cale Reagan came back with a 75 for a 155 total. That tied him for 10th.

River Roof had rounds of 86 and 82 for a 168.

Hayes White shot 90 and 85 for a 175 total.

Hagen Owens finished at 178 after rounds of 90 and 88.

Hennessey placed seventh overall with a 719.

The Eagles were led by Tyson Root’s 172 total.

Brayson Brinson shot a 175, Jameson Ladwig a 178, Titan Root a 194 and Mason McGee a 221.

The 3A state tournament is May 11-12 at The Coves Golf Club in Afton. The first day will consist of 36 holes and the second day will feature 18.
