Kingfisher was far from full strength, but did have two medalists Saturday morning in Hennessey’s 13th annual Mike Driskill Turkey Creek Classic cross country meet.

Mattie Slezickey placed 11th overall and Lily Lunsford 17th out of 103 runners to help lead the Lady Jackets to a sixth place finish.

The race is traditionally run at Hennessey’s Turkey Creek Golf Course, but Thursday rains prompted its move north to Oklahoma Bible Academy’s campus in Enid.

As the rains fell Saturday morning, Slezickey managed the 3,200 meter course in 13:02.7.

She was ninth among runners scoring points for their teams.

On her 18th birthday and with balloons waiting on her, Lunsford crossed the finish line in 13:23.1.

Hinsley Brodrick was 29th and scored 23 points for the team as she finished in 14:04.1. Also scoring for KHS were Roana Padilla Granados, who was 66th overall, and Rylee Long-Bush, who was one spot behind her.

Medals went to the top 25 placers.

Kingfisher was without Ryann Farrar and Kellyn Young in the race.

KHS scored 137 points as a team.

Bethany won the meet with 46 while Weatherford was second with 72.

Hennessey placed eighth with 191, but had the top runner among the county’s athletes.

Sophomore Julianne Matousek was fourth overall and second among scorers.

Matousek ran the course in 12:32.

OBA freshman Laney Janzen won the meet in 11:25.9, barely edging Chisholm’s Courtney Occhuzzio’s 11:26.1.

Also earning a medal from Kingfisher County was Cashion freshman Hattie Wood.

She placed 15th as she ran the race in 13:18.9.

Her counterpart on the boys’ team, Cole Baustert, placed 25th out of 115 boys runners to earn a medal.

Baustert completed the 5K course in 18:43.

Kingfisher was led by Kurttis Mark, who placed 69th in 21:02.

Hennessey was paced by Asher Ward’s 55th place finish in 20:23.

In the middle school boys race, which covered 2,500 meters, Cashion’s Brantley Coleman picked up a medal as he placed 13th in 10:02.9.

Shecotah Burpo of Kingfi sher placed 19th to medal. He finished in 10:22.7.

The junior high girls covered 1,920 meters in their race.

Olyvia Burpo placed 15th in 7:59.1 to medal.

Kennes Briley and Quinn Ward also earned medals as they placed 24th and 25th, respectively.
