Eighth-ranked Okarche disposed of its first two foes Thursday while hosting a Class A softball district tournament.

The Lady Warriors runruled Schulter 15-0 in three innings and then kept themselves in the driver’s seat by downing Wellston 9-3.

Okarche played Wellston again Friday for the district title.

The Lady Warriors managed 11 hits in just two innings at the plate against Schulter, including home runs by Kenzie Harper and Kinley Pruett.

Both came in a 13-run first inning.

Harper’s three-run shot made the score 7-0 and added a three-run blast to push it to 11-0.

The two were joined by Avery Treece in driving in three runs in the game.

Harper, Callie Cramer and Charlie Petty had two hits apiece.

Petty allowed three hits in securing the win. She struck out five batters.

Pruett wasn’t finished hitting homers.

After Okarche fell behind 2-0 early, she hit a solo shot in the bottom of the first to cut the deficit in half.

Wellston carried a lead into the fourth when Harper’s RBI single tied the game.

Lawson Geheb and Pruett had back-to-back RBI hits and Roby later had a two-run single to give Okarche a 6-2 lead in the fifth.

RBIs from Cramer, Katie Parham and Pruett extended the lead in the sixth.

Geheb surrendered a two-run homer in the first inning, but settled in after that.

The junior went the distance and allowed only four hits while striking out 12.

Okarche (24-9) needed just one win against Wellston on Friday (after press time) to advance to this week’s regional.
