Top-seeded Bulldogs down Jackets in regional title game

Kingfisher saw its 2026 baseball campaign come to a close Thursday, but not before winning three times as many games as a season ago.

Top-seeded Sulphur completed the sweep through a 4A regional on its home field by knocking off KHS 13-2 in the title game.

The Jackets went 2-2 in the regional with both wins coming against Woodward and both losses coming at the hands of the Bulldogs.

Carter Stephenson homered and drove in four runs as the Jackets downed Woodward 9-3 Wednesday in their opener.

The Jackets built a 4-0 lead through four innings and were only threatened once in the game.

That’s when the Boomers’ Kash Carter belted a three-run homer in the top of the fifth to pull his team within 4-3.

But that’s all senior Cooper Henley would surrender as he pitched a complete game, scattered eight hits and struck out eight batters.

After Woodward narrowed the gap, the Jackets answered with four runs in the bottom of the fifth to once again take command.

Jagger Braun delivered an RBI single and Stephenson followed with a tworun single.

Collin Farrar backed that up with another RBI single for an 8-3 lead.

Braun offered more insurance with an RBI single in the sixth.

Henley helped his own cause with an RBI double in the first inning.

Stephenson picked up his first RBI with an RBI double in the second.

His solo homer in the fourth made it 4-0.

KHS had 13 hits in the game.

Henley joined Stephenson in collecting three of them.

Kaden Cline and Braun had two apiece.

That earned the Jackets a shot against Sulphur that night, but the Bulldogs prevailed 11-1 in five innings. They scored all their runs in the first three innings, which included three home runs.

Farrar gave the Jackets a quick offensive start as he led off the game with a homer.

But KHS had just three more hits the rest of the night, two of them by Henley.

That put Kingfisher into an elimination game against Woodward on Thursday.

The Jackets responded with a 5-0 win.

Jayzen Surveyor pitched a shutout to help the Jackets survive.

He struck out 11 while scattering five hits over the complete game effort.

The Jackets gave him some early run support as Kaden Cline picked up an RBI on a groundout and Drew Snider drove in another run with a single.

Brett Calamateo then led off the third inning with a home run for a 3-0 lead.

KHS pushed across two more in the fifth, including an RBI single by Sloan Merrill.

The Jackets had eight hits in the game, two each by Cooper Henley, Kaden Cline and Merrill.

Kingfisher’s season ends with a 21-16 record a season after the team won just seven games.
