Warriors win 2A regional title

Okarche’s boys didn’t just qualify for the Class 2A state golf tournament.

They made sure they went in as regional champs.

The Warriors won a 2A regional Monday at the Jimmie Austin Golf Club in Seminole.

Okarche shot a 36-hole total of 677 to defeat Nowata by four strokes. Fairland was third at 700.

All three teams advance to state, which is May 1112 at KickingBird Golf in Edmond.

This was the first regional golf championship in the school’s history and Okarche’s first time to qualify since 2010.

Freshman Cy Collamore led Okarche’s charge.

He opened with an 85 on the par-71 course, then closed out with a 76 for a 161 total.

That tied him for fourth place individually.

Asher Schieber had rounds of 90 and 80 for a 170, good for 11th individually.

Hudson Mueggenborg shot 80 in his first round and then a 93 for a 173.

Henry McIlvain’s opening 89 was followed by an 86 for a 175.

Lane Rother carded rounds of 92 and 91 for a 183.

Okarche sat in third place after the initial 18 holes with its 344.

Nowata was in the lead with a 338 and Merritt was second with a 340.

Fairland sat further back in fourth with a 350.

The Warriors then had the best closing round by 10 strokes in shooting a 333.

Nowata had a 343 and Fairland a 350.

Merritt’s 361 dropped it down to a 701 total, which missed qualifying by one stroke.
