Dover senior Sam Wood is now a two-time state qualifier in golf.

Wood, who last year became Dover’s first-ever qualifier in the sport, shot a 36-hole total of 150 on Monday in a Class 2A regional at Idabel Country Club.

His score placed him 6th overall.

More importantly, he placed second among golfers from teams that didn’t qualify for state.

The top three teams (and ties for third) and then the top three individuals (and ties for third) from non-qualifying teams all qualify for state.

Wood was tied for first overall after the first 18 holes as he shot an evenpar 70.

He struggled out of the gate on his second round of the day. Starting on hole #10, he was 9-over through his first nine holes in that round.

However, he birdied two of the first three holes on the front-nine and eventually was 1-over on that side for a total of 80.

Karter Florence of Stringtown shot a 147 total to place third overall and take first among golfers from non-qualifiers.

Wood was next at 150 and then four golfers tied at 157 to also advance to state. They were: Landen Allen of Red Oak, Braxtyn Lee of Latta, Ethan Clark of Canadian and Luke Watkins of Crescent.

The Class 2A state golf tournament is May 11-12 at KickingBird Golf in Edmond. It will consist of 36 holes on the first day and 18 on the second.
