Six of the seven local schools will be taking part this week in basketball tournaments.The lone exception is Hennessey, which is one of the few schools not a part of the largest tournament week of the season.Kingfisher once again will be hosting the Buckle of the Wheatbelt Invitational.

Kingfisher wrestlers will make their first shot toward the postseason on Thursday.Albeit a long one.The Jackets will take part in the District 4A-2 dual Thursday at Tuttle.Joining KHS and the Tigers will be Newcastle and Douglass.

The OSSAA released playoff assignments last Friday for Classes A and B basketball.District tournaments begin Feb. 11 for those classes as they begin a month-long trek toward state.In Class B, Dover and Lomega are both in Area II and both will host district tournaments.

Kingfisher’s basketball games at Blanchard scheduled last Tuesday were postponed.Blanchard reported multiple COVID-19 issues.The games are now slated Feb. 10.Issues also affected wrestling this weekend.Kingfisher was set to host the Western Conference Wrestling Tournament Friday and Saturday.

Hennessey suffered its second narrow loss to Watonga in just a matter of days.The Eagles went on the road Tuesday and were knocked off 61-56 in overtime by Watonga.

Cashion carried over its momentum from the Three Rivers Conference Tournament into last week.The Wildcats won their fifth straight game by knocking off Class A’s 12th-ranked Seiling 53-43 at home.

Playing for the fifth time in a week on Monday, the Dover boys continued to push their record toward .500.Behind a big second quarter push, the Longhorns knocked off Geary 72-48 at home.

Lomega’s bid to repeat as Warrior Classic champion fell short in the finals.A massive second quarter by Sentinel helped the Bulldogs earn a 71-54 victory in Saturday’s championship game.The Bulldogs turned a seven-point deficit into a double-digit lead by scoring 29 points in the second quarter.
