Turns out the 2022 Tournament of Champions is going to have a strong Kingfisher County flavor.It was reported last week that the Kingfisher High School boys had accepted an invitation to play in next season’s tournament.

Never count out Okarche. The Warriors erased a big early deficit, a smaller one in the final minutes of regulation and eventually pulled out a 51-46 overtime win Tuesday night at Hennessey.

It had been more than two weeks since the Kingfisher girls basketball team took the court.Edmond Santa Fe’s JV team took on the brunt of that frustration.The Lady Jackets began defense of their Buckle of the Wheatbelt Invitational title Thursday with a 78-28 victory over the Lady Wolves at the APB.

A three-game losing streak came to an end Friday for the Hennessey boys.They traveled to Enid and took home a 58-42 Three Rivers Conference win from Oklahoma Bible Academy.The Trojans took a twopoint lead into the second quarter thanks to three 3-pointers from Treyton Owens.

A series of events have led to the Kingfisher High School basketball teams getting the opportunity to play on the home court of the Oklahoma City Thunder.Kingfisher was originally scheduled to play at Bethany on Tuesday, Jan. 18.

Whether missing players or their head coach, the Dover girls continue to find ways to win.This time the Lady Longhorns were without coach Brett Pitts for a second straight game.Still they held on to defeat Pond Creek-Hunter 38-31.

The Cashion boys enjoyed playing basketball over the weekend so much, they put in a little extra time.As in overtime.The Wildcats also went 3-0 in a four-day stretch, but the last two went into overtime, including Monday night’s 65-62 victory over 5A No. 7 Bishop Mc-Guinness.

While several schools were taking a step back from their basketball seasons over the weekend, the Cashion girls used the time to regain some steam.It was time well spent.The Lady Wildcats snapped a three-game losing streak and went 3-0 over a three-day stretch.

Just a couple of quick notes and observations as we begin the home stretch of this basketball season.While it seemingly just began, we’re just a few weeks away from the postseason.Doesn’t seem possible, but that’s the way it goes each year, especially with the flurry that is January basketball.
