Wildcats put in ‘extra’ work for 3 wins

The Cashion boys enjoyed playing basketball over the weekend so much, they put in a little extra time.

As in overtime.

The Wildcats also went 3-0 in a four-day stretch, but the last two went into overtime, including Monday night’s 65-62 victory over 5A No. 7 Bishop Mc-Guinness.

Cashion trailed by seven entering the fourth and spent a majority of that quarter behind.

But after an Irish miss with about 25 seconds to play, Cashion had the ball trailing by two.

That’s when Trey Tichenor stepped up as the senior drove the line and softly landed a floater to tie the game at 54-all with four seconds left.

In the overtime frame, Cashion got hold of a three-point lead with 1:00 left on Austin Frazier’s two free throws.

The Wildcats never lost it.

Nick Nabavi nailed four free throws in the final 50 seconds - his only points of the game - to help keep Cashion on top and McGuinness’ last-second shot to tie came up off the mark.

Frazier led the team with 20 points and also grabbed seven rebounds.

Landon LaGasse provided 12 points and eight boards.

Vance Raney, who missed Saturday’s game with a knee sprain, returned to score 14 while Tichenor chipped in 11.

After dropping all three games at the Tournament of Champions, Cashion has won eight in a row.

The Wildcats, now ranked second in Class 2A, had to work for it in Saturday’s 45-39 overtime win at Wynnewood.

A tight game throughout saw the Savages outscore Cashion 11-9 in the fourth to send it into overtime.

That’s when Cashion pulled away with a 9-3 run.

The Wildcats were just 16 of 33 from the line, but Wynnewood attempted only five on the night.

Adam Fields had 14 points and 11 boards for the Savages, but the team had 17 rebounds total.

LaGasse and Frazier topped that with their combined total of 23.

Frazier knocked down 23 points to go with his 10 boards.

LaGasse had six points and 13 rebounds.

Tichenor and Nabavi also scored six apiece as Cashion was without Raney.

The Wildcats are also playing without injured starting point guard Jonah Jenkins, but it didn’t slow down the Wildcats in their 79-23 home win over Wellston on Friday.

Cashion was up six after a quarter, but took command with a 28-4 run in the second.

Wellston had 16 rebounds…and so did La-Gasse.

The senior notched a double-double with 11 points as well.

Frazier led the team with 16 points while Nabavi added 15.

Tichenor scored 11 and joined LaGasse in leading the team with four assists. Tichenor also had a teamhigh four steals.
