The heroes were aplenty. The big plays in abundance. But if two players were representative of Kingfisher baseball team last Friday night, they were T.J. Parker and Will Taylor. Both had their rough moments, but both also stepped up in time of need.

Cashion dominates regional; ready for 2A state challenge

Intimidation won’t be a factor Thursday when Cashion plays in just its fifth-ever baseball tournament, says the team’s coach. The Wildcats will take on Silo, one of the favorites to win Class 2A, in the opening game of the state tournament at Dolese Park.

The state golf tournament had been nothing but cruel to Maddi Kamas. As a freshman in 2018, Kamas was in striking distance of the leaders after the first round, but weather forced the cancellation of the second round and she never attempted her charge.

They refused to let them see their tears. As angry, upset and disappointed as they were, the Kingfisher High School girls golfers early Thursday evening walked into the clubhouse of Cushing’s Buffalo Rock Golf & Venue with their eyes dry and their heads high. But it wasn’t easy.

There stood Landry Allen, all 6-feet-3 of her athletic frame ready to conquer the Class 4A state high jump. Next to her was Kingfisher’s Ally Stephenson.

Jumps, relays vault KHS boys to 3rd

Going into their final race of the day, the Kingfisher boys needed to make two things happen to finish third as a team at the Class 4A state track & field meet. The Jackets had to beat Holland Hall, which held a three-point lead over Kingfisher, in the race and finish among the top-five.

Crescent’s Taylor claims long jump championship

Five contestants in the Class 2A girls long jump were seeded ahead of Crescent’s Kinidi Taylor. None could beat her on Saturday. Taylor won the event at Ardmore High School as she flew 16 feet, 9 1/2 inches.

State Track & Field Results

Following are events in which athletes from local high schools scored points for their respective teams at the state track and field meets as well as the team finish for each local school: Class A at Cherokee Girls Lomega 12th with 21 points 100 - Hallie Barton 6th, 13.

2A, 4A state baseball schedules announced

Following are the complete schedules for the Class 2A and 4A state baseball tournaments. Days, times and locations are subject to change: Class 4A at Shawnee High School Thursday Game 1: Heritage Hall vs. Poteau, 10 a.m. Game 2: Marlow vs. Berryhill, 1 p.m. Game 3: Verdigris vs. Tuttle, 4 p.m.
