County accepts bid for relocating 911 call center to new county jail

Sheriff Dennis Banther reported a sole source bid from Motorola Solutions of $15,782.07 to relocate the 911 department to the new justice center at the south side of Kingfisher.He said the bid was about double the oral estimate he had received from the company, creating sticker shock on his part.

We’re about a quarter of the way through the legislative session at this point. Out of the 1,987 House bills and joint resolutions filed this session, only 503 - about a quarter - made it out of committee. We have until March 11 to vote on those in the House or they languish until next year.

Hennessey United sets Oct.16 for Wine & Chocolate Festival

COVID-19 caused the cancellation of last year’s Hennessey Wine & Chocolate Festival, but this year’s outdoor event is set for Saturday, Oct. 16.The date for the festival was decided by the Hennessey United Association board of directors Thursday evening.

KMS BAND COMPETES AT DISTRICT

Kingfisher Middle School band competed in the OSSAA district contest Thursday, March 4, at Putnam City North High School. “Despite COVID restrictions and weather challenges, they earned an ‘excellent’ in concert and a ‘superior’ in sight reading,” said Director Mandy Owens.

Okarche speech team has 2 virtual competitions

The Okarche High School speech team completed qualifying competition for the 2020-21 school year by placing several students in two virtual speech tournaments. During the month of February, OHS speech students competed in the Weatherford and the Crescent invitationals.

Karrenbrock, Matson are March Junior lions

Kingfisher High School seniors Karli Karrenbrock and Cayman Matson have been named the March 2021 Junior Lions. The two were at a recent meeting of the civic group. Karrenbrock is the daughter of Kenneth and Alicia Karrenbrock. She is active in FFA, Student Council and drama.

Voters should apply early for absentee ballots

Voters in Kingfisher County who want to have absentee ballots mailed to them for school board and city elections should apply now, Kingfisher County Election Board Secretary Shawna Butts said.
