Group of lawmakers express support for law enforcement

A group of Oklahoma lawmakers recently issued the following statements in support of Oklahoma law enforcement officers. Because of widespread support, additional members have requested to be on this list. Among those listed are Rep. Mike Sanders and Rep. Denise Hader-Crosswhite.

The Kingfisher Police Department has investigated or responded to the following reports: June 21 - Larceny of merchandise from retailer. Officer Charles Trout responded to a report of theft at Atwoods, 1213 S. Main St.

Lawns, gardens get boost from weekend drenching

Weekend storms beginning last Friday dumped up to 5.2 inches of timely rain across Kingfisher County.“We went from drought to flood,” said Harold Ebers of Hennessey, who recorded 5.2 inches at his residence.

County CASA project starts

Associate District Judge Lance Schneiter swore in the first group of volunteers for the county’s first ever Court Appointed Special Advocates program. They include Beth Schieber, Becky Vogt, Cindy Raul and Kirsten Duran, who will work under the supervision of volunteer coordinator Heather Jones.

Lzena McElvany

Lzena L. McElvany was born to John N. Warren and Mary Jane Fleshman-Warren on Dec. 9, 1935, near Loyal. She went home to Jesus on July 9, 2020, at the age of 84 after a long battle with cancer. The funeral for Lzena was 10 a.m.

Melvin Branson

Melvin Paul Branson was born Nov. 25, 1936, in Mulhall to Luther and Winnifred (McCracken) Branson. He passed away July 9, 2020, at his home in Kingfisher at the age of 83. Melvin married Bernita Eva Moore on Aug. 27, 1958, in Redwood Fall, Minn. They established their first home in El Reno.

FLASH FLOODS from Friday’s downpour had local emergency personnel out enforcing the “Turn Around Don’t Drown” sign on North Main Street in Kingfisher for a few hours. According to Mesonet numbers, the storm dumped 1.38 inches in Kingfisher, 1.39 in El Reno and Marshall, 1.

County action not necessary

Kingfisher City-County Emergency Management Director Steve Loftis advised county commissioners last week that the state emergency management office was not recommending county action in response to the uptick in COVID-19 cases.
