An ADA power lift, and a “mother’s bench” in the water are just a couple of features of Hennessey’s new $2.1 million pool that opens with a ribbon-cutting at noon Monday, said Tiffany Tillman, town administrator. The 100-by-200 foot pool has a 6,100-foot deck and a 1,660 square-foot bathhouse.

Hennessey’s town board voted 4-1 to immediately “terminate the job position of public works director” Thursday night after a 45-minute executive session. That action left Curtis Turner without a job. “So this is it? Not even any severance pay after almost 15 years?” a visibly upset Turner asked.

In peace-loving Kingfisher County where mostly everybody gets along with everyone else, the mob riots in large cities seem like they’re happening in another country. Now there are mob cries to defund police departments because of the death of an unarmed Minneapolis man under police custody.

I am white. I was born that way. I was also born with crossed eyes and curly hair to a poor momma and daddy in northeast Oklahoma City. I didn’t know we were poor because everyone around us was poor, but I knew I was different. I was the girl who wore Coke-bottle thick glasses.

I understand a lot of folks have quit looking for work and are out of a job, an experience I’ve never had as an adult because I’ve never had a job to be unemployed from. I’ve never belonged to that class of people known as “salarymen” and haven’t had to dust off my resume in over 40 years.

“Defund the police” has become the newest rallying cry for the left and it’s no longer confined to radicals and activists. Some local lawmakers are going a step further to say “dismantle” or “abolish” the police, while left-leaning media outlets are giving credence to the fledgling movement.

Perhaps the most select group of young golfers ever assembled in Oklahoma will take part Monday in a brand-new event on one of the state’s most storied courses. The Oklahoma Junior Masters will tee off at 11 a.m. at Southern Hills Country Club in Tulsa.

Hennessey school board members got an earful last Monday night from one of the district’s coaches about inequity in extra-duty pay. Audience members also heard the complaints due to an agenda hiccup that caused discussion and action on all personnel matters in open session.

The Town of Hennessey will host a meeting at 7:30 p.m. Monday at Town Hall for all clubs and groups interested in planning and participating in the community’s July 4 events.

Rodney and Kris Schaefer of Okarche announce the engagement of their daughter Rachel to Daniel Craw of Yukon. The prospective bridegroom is the son of Bart and Kathy Craw. A graduate of Mooreland High School, he is employed at Austin Hose.
