The Okarche High School speech team finished qualifying competition with a win at the Hennessey Invitational Speech and Debate Tournament. OHS’s 10 competitiors amassed enough to bring home the first-place team trophy in Class 3A with Cherokee taking second and Okeene placing third.

Claude ‘Gene’ Guinn

Claude “Gene” Guinn was born March 18,1948, in Lyons, Kan., to Nathan “Junior” and Geneva Guinn. He died Saturday, Feb. 29, 2020, at Mercy Hospital in Oklahoma City. He was 71. Gene graduated from Hennessey High School in 1966 prior to attending Oklahoma State University.

Keith Edward Schemmer, 66, Kingfisher, died Feb. 18, 2020. Memorial service is planned at 2 p.m. Friday, March 20, at the Federated Church in Kingfisher under the direction of McNeil’s Funeral Service of Mustang.
