Do not rebuke an older man harshly, but exhort him as if he were your father (1 Timothy 5:1) Thoughts on Today’s Verse There is an eagerness, passion, and a clear sense of purpose that can go with being young — headstrong, untested, and rash is how some who are older might describe it.

In my previous column, I gave an update of Oklahoma Department of Transportation roads and bridges projects in Blaine and Dewey Counties. In this one, I detail projects in Woodward and Woodward County.

Conditions in Iran were rapidly deteriorating in 1978. The shah had stepped down, the prime minister had no ability to stop the growing political and social upheaval, and the mullahs, led by the Ayatollah Khomenei, were aggressively moving to seize power.

AREA DEATH William Ray Dixon, known to most of his friends as “Light,” passed on May 24, 2019. Light was born in Kingfisher to Letha (Gritz) and Nolan Dixon. He attended school in Kingfisher.

The Hennessey Lions Club will sponsor its second annual Chow Down at the Park food truck event Saturday, July 20.It will be held from 11 a.m. until 6 p.m. at Memorial Park on North Main Street.There is a seated pavilion at the park, along with picnic tables, and lots of shade trees.

Just a few short months ago, Bijan Cortes and Trey Alexander were on opposing teams at State Fair Arena while battling it out for Class 4A boys basketball supremacy.

The Kingfisher Blue Sox spent most of their season shelling a former Oklahoma State pitcher. It almost got them a state championship. Atoka defeated the Blue Sox 10-0 Saturday in the decisive game of a best-of-three series to claim the OK Kids coach pitch state championship at Clinton.

The late Glenna Simpson of Kingfisher had a servant’s heart.   Educated and certified as a nurse’s aide, she never entered the workforce but chose instead to remain home to raise her five children.

The Chisholm Trail Museum in Kingfisher will host a traveling exhibit of photography by Lewis Hine from Sept. 1 through Nov. 22.

Dan Schiedel, executive director of the Enid and Northwest Oklahoma United Way, center, was the guest speaker of the Kingfisher Rotary Club last week.
