Apparently riding the brakes is one of those female things

Friend John said when he took his 10-year-old car in to be serviced the mechanic said his brakes looked brand new, and asked his secret. He told the guy, “I don’t let my wife drive it. She rides the brakes.” Ouch! I confessed that my husband, Bill, always said I did too.

When our farm to market roads were built about 50 years ago, the heavy traffic was pretty much two-ton trucks hauling wheat to elevators. The stock trailers weren’t big fourteen-, sixteen-foot bumper pull – a few semi trucks, oil trucks and water trucks, not all that many.

Smash headed to state

The Fourth of July is for fireworks. The fifth is for t-ball... at least for the Kingfisher Smash. The collection of Kingfisher youth punched their ticket to the OK Kids state t-ball tournament with last Saturday’s regional championship.

Hopkins signs with ESU

One of Kingfisher’s former All-State baseball players has at least two more years to go in his career. Matt Hopkins recently signed to play baseball at Emporia State University in Kansas. He recently completed a two-year stint at Hutchinson Community College in Hutchinson, Kan.

Velma Case

Velma Colleen Ray Case, 89, died unexpectedly Saturday afternoon in her Ponca City home, attended by family members. Velma and her husband, Robert, were former longtime Kingfisher residents and she was a former columnist for the Kingfisher Times & Free Press.

Colleen Evans

Colleen V. Evans, 88 was born in Kingfisher on Aug. 30, 1930, to John and Deta Wickham and passed away Wednesday May 29, 2019. Cremation arrangements are by Cordry-Gritz Funeral Home, Hennessey. Colleen was raised in Kingfisher and graduated from Kingfisher High School.
