Eagles 1 win shy of state

Another game. Another exciting finish. Another win for Hennessey. The Eagles landed within one more victory of the state tournament when they knocked off No. 10 Carnegie 54-51 last Saturday in their 2A regional championship at Hinton.

Crescent battles way to area

Crescent eliminated one of 2A’s favorites to reach the state tournament on Friday and made it to area on Saturday. “There was definitely some luck involved, but we’ll take it,” coach Karl Butt said. Lucky or not, the Lady Tigers are playing Preston at 6:30 p.m.

Okarche girls’ run ends 1 win shy of state

Four and seven. Those were the streaks put to an end Saturday when Hydro-Eakly defeated Okarche 55-35 in their Class A girls area consolation championship in Enid. It put to an end a streak of four straight elimination wins by the Lady Warriors, including two in the previous two days.

Cashion squads knocked out in 2A regional

Cashion’s run of state tournament appearances has ended at four. The Lady Wildcats were defeated 51-42 by Carnegie in last Friday’s 2A regional consolation semifinal at Hinton. Cashion was led by Neeley Bedick’s 15 points. Brook Shelly added 11 and Kaitin Taylor six.

Snodgrass, Neal eliminated on first day of state wrestling

Kingfisher’s stint at the 2019 state wrestling tournament was short-lived. Neither of the Jackets’ two qualifiers was able to come away with a win last Friday at State Fair Arena. Senior Stone Snodgrass was pinned 21 seconds into his 138-pound quarterfinal match with Salina’s Austin Wilkins.
