Who’s on first?

HENNESSEY BOARD OF EDUCATION members for 2021-22 are, from left: Dr. James Matousek, president; Luke Lough, vice-president; Patrick Griffin, clerk; Cristopher Choate, and David Tillman. Now here’s the saga about how only one board member moved up a chair at Monday night’s meeting during the usual yearly rotation of officers. Matousek, whose board term expired this month, was re-elected president. That was after the three holdover board members (Lough, Choate and Griffin), and new member Tillman, went into closed session to discuss who they’d appoint to the board. The board voted 3-1 in open session to appoint Matousek to the board with Tillman casting the ‘no’ vote. Then Matousek was elected president after he abstained and the other four voted him in. Lough, who was elected vice president March 31 to replace Joe Garrison whose ill health caused him to resign as vice-president, was re-elected vice president Monday night. Then Griffin was appointed clerk, and he was the only member who got to move up one chair that night. Both Matousek and Tillman took the oath of office during the meeting with Matousek for the one-year term remaining on Garrison’s term, and Tillman started his five-year-term.
