Memorial day morning, first off I’d like to give a great big thank you, to the cemetery crews, the Kingfisher cemetery, is as always perfect!!! The rural cemeteries, always groomed, thanks to the local cemetery Associations, these folks get together and clean up our rural cemeteries. Last but not least, the American Legion, and the school clubs that put the American flags on the graves of the veterans!!!!!

APRON ANNIES HOST OHS EVENT - Baccalaureate services for the Okarche High School Class of 2021 were held in the OHS gym Sunday, May 16. Platform guests honoring the seniors were (top photo, from left): Superintendent Josh Sumrall; Principal Lisa Munson; Pastor James Inman of the First Baptist Church of Okarche; Pastor Kurtis Ivey of Light Your World Church of Okarche; guest speakers Larry Black and Bob Barnett; and Dr. Juanita Krittenbrink, moderator. The Apron Annies HCE group hosted the event and reception. Apron Annies HCE also presented its annual scholarship to Nick Baustert (pictured left with Krittenbrink), the son of John and Donna Baustert. Baustert, the salutatorian of his graduating class, plans to attend UCO to become a nurse practitioner. Krittenbrink is the Apron Annies’ educational chair. [Photos provided]

MILLS EARNS 50-YEAR PIN, 10 OTHER MASONS HONORED

Coronado Masonic Lodge #56 held a dinner followed by an open meeting Tuesday, May 18, in Hennessey to recognize and honor 11 Masons with membership pins and plaques. Pictured are, from left: front row, honorees and presenters Gene Spillman, Deputy Grand Master Scott Vincent, 50-Year member Bobby Mills (with plaque), Grand Master Robert Davis, Darrell Lee and John Curran; second row, Richard Kerr, Gerald Stegall, Roe LaPorte, Mike Smith, Dr. John Smith; and back row, Jack Painter and Warren McConnell. The local lodge also presented LaPorte with a lifetime membership. It also continues to support Hennessey graduates each year in writing competition awards, as well as Students of Today honors at the Hennessey High, Middle and Elementary schools to students who demonstrate good citizenship, leadership and academic development. Members also give $500 awards to Dover and Hennessey School District Teachers of the Year, assist with numerous other school and community events and fundraisers.
