Harrison solid at ‘Bash’

Kingfisher’s Myles Harrison (pictured) shot a 2-over-par 72 Thursday at the Lake Hefner Golf Club’s south course. The round tied him for fifth out of 109 golfers in the small-school division of the Bluejay Bash. Harrison’s round was just one stroke off the winning score of 71, which was shot by four different players. As a team, KHS placed ninth out of 19 full squads with its 318 total. Luciano Orozco shot a 79, Cale Reagan an 80, Paytun Burnham an 87 and Ryan Sanders an 89. Playing as an individual, Matthew Mecklenburg carded an 84 for Kingfisher. Okarche has state ticket within reach

Okarche’s Ethan Kirby attempts to backhand a ball at second base during his team’s 13-3 win over Barnsdall in the opening game of the Class A baseball regional. The Warriors followed up that win with a 17-0 victory over Porum on Thursday evening, leaving them one win shy of reaching the state tournament. The first opportunity came Friday evening (after press time) when Okarche was set to host the Porum-Pioneer winner at 6:30 p.m. If Okarche won, the Warriors punched their ticket to state. A loss would mean a rematch on Saturday. See the KT&FP Facebook page for results over the weekend.

He wasn’t the only Yellowjacket having success. The No. 1 doubles team of Coleman Gilles and Wyatt Long (pictured left in bottom photo) were the runner-up in their bracket on Wednesday. Then the KHS girls finished as the team runner-up Thursday in Clinton. The No. 1 doubles team of Jaelin Cortes and Kadyn Daugherty took second in their bracket as did the No. 2 doubles team of Sydney Burk and Giulia Scano.
