Duane Yarbrough

Duane Yarbrough, the son of Willie E. and Zetha Lois Yarbrough, was born Oct. 4, 1951, in Kingfisher.

He was the 11th of 14 children born to this union. Duane was preceded in death by his parents; two sisters, Marie Lois Yarbrough and Ruby Bell Yarbrough; two sisters-inlaw, Lennie B. Yarbrough and Selina Yarbrough; one daughter, Sharron Latosha Johnson; four brothers, William Edward Yarbrough, Michael Dulany Yarbrough, Anthony Ray Yarbrough, and Delbert Warren Yarbrough; and one step-granddaughter, Heaven Latialia.

After attending Kingfisher Public Schools, Duane relocated to Detroit, Mich., where he worked for Chrysler Corporation for 30 years and retired in 2003, earning a pension for his services on Oct. 3, 2003.

In 1973, he met the love of his life, Elizabeth Sanders, a mother of five children.

During this union, they were blessed with a son and daughter. Duane and Elizabeth were married Oct. 2, 1987. Duane and Elizabeth moved back to Kingfisher in 2015.

Duane loved nothing more than going fishing, enjoying cookouts with family members and traveling to casinos with his wife, family members and friends.

His most memorable achievements were receiving a 30-year retirement for his employment with Chrysler Corporation and winning the lottery.

He was more comfortable in his relationships with his wife, family members and his friends. Also, he loved attending family reunions and sharing time with all family members.

He made decisions based on his feelings toward others and he avoided conflicts.

His favorite music were songs by the Temptations and Marvin Gaye.

He was called home to be with the Lord on July 7, 2022.

He leaves to cherish his memory his wife, Elizabeth Yarbrough; his one son Duane Yarbrough Jr.; his son-in-law, William Ricardo Johnson; his four grandchildren, Victoria Johnson, Rico Johnson, Arianna Johnson and Remington Yarbrough; five stepchildren, Billy McMurray, Floyd McMurray, Devortey McMurray, Sandra Allison and Empress Sheila Latalia.

Additionally, he is survived by his sisters Sheila Yarbrough and Jinella Yarbrough; his brothers John Wesley Yarbrough, Marcellus Harold Yarbrough, Dave Gilbert Yarbrough, Larry Eugene Yarbrough, Ricky Lee Yarbrough and Palaphine Marino Yarbrough (son of deceased sister, Marie Yarbrough); longtime friend Lorraine Conn (mother of five of his older brother’s children); his sisters-in-law, Norma Yarbrough, Elenora Yarbrough and Anita Yarbrough; 14 step-grandchildren; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends. Additionally, he is survived by his only living aunt, Wanda Jean Harvey Nelson.
