Charles ‘Charlie’ Carter
Charles “Charlie” Bengman Carter lived a life rooted in hard work, ingenuity and love for his family.
He passed away Wednesday, Oct. 21, 2026, peacefully at home surrounded by loved ones at the age of 77.
Born Aug. 1, 1949, in Borger, Texas, Charlie grew up in Oklahoma City and spent part of his youth at the Boys Ranch, known as “Boys Town,” in Edmond.
During his teenage years, he sang in the choir and enjoyed singing his favorite hymn, Amazing Grace, at local churches.
While attending Edmond High School, he met Judith Cline. He was a junior and she was a senior. Judy became the love of his life and they married on Nov. 15, 1966.
Charlie believed in working hard, staying determined and providing for his family. When he wasn’t working, he enjoyed a good John Wayne show, an old western or time spent tinkering in his shop.
He had a gift for building things and figuring out how to make an idea come to life. Over the years, he built several trikes and two eight-barrel trains, giving his grandchildren and their friends rides in local parades and around the yard.
There wasn’t much Charlie couldn’t do and when a challenge came along, he always found a way.
Charlie and Judy shared nearly 60 years of marriage, building a life and raising their three children Greg, Kelly and Christy side by side. The love, determination and memories they shared will continue through the generations of their family.
Charlie is survived by his loving wife, Judy Carter; his son, Greg Carter; granddaughter, Melanie (Jonathan) Mitchell; and great-grandson, Cayson; granddaughter, Meaghen (Dough) Toliver; great-granddaughters Jaylyn and Tatum; and great-grandson, Kingston; daughter, Kelly (Scott) Lingo; grandson, Blayze (Serena) Lingo; great-granddaughters Ameilia and Sadie; granddaughter, Brooke (Riley) Turner; and great-granddaughters Raelyn, Evvy and Jamisyn; great-grandson, Kash; and daughter, Christy Carter; grandson, Shyloh Carter-Kiser; granddaughter, Shyanne Kiser; and great-grandson, Brendon.
Charlie will be lovingly remembered for his hardworking hands, resourceful spirit and the joy he brought to his family.
His legacy lives on in the life he built with Judy, the memories he gave his children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren and the love carried forward by all who knew him.
In keeping with Charlie’s wishes, no services will be held. The family is grateful for the prayers, kindness, thoughts and support offered during this time.
Arrangements are under the direction of Sanders Funeral Service.
