Maureen Seay Kordis of Kingfisher went to heaven to be with the Lord Jesus on Wednesday, Jan. 7, 2026.

Maureen was born in Ardmore on Nov. 18, 1935, to Navy Captain Lon and Maurine (Seay) Johnson.

At the age of 6 on Dec. 7, 1941, she lived near the Pearl Harbor Naval Base when it was attacked by Japan.

She spent time in Cody, Wyo., with her maternal grandparents.

She graduated from Guthrie High School in 1953.

She earned an associate’s degree and worked as a secretary at the Noble Institute and later at Tinker Air Force Base.

Maureen met Herbert Kordis at a Tall Club dance. It was love at first sight.

They were married Aug. 24, 1968, and established a home near Cashion.

Together they worked on the farm and raised two children.

She always loved animals, especially horses and dogs. Her hobbies included sewing, gardening and reading.

Maureen was preceded in death by her parents; her brother, Charles Johnson; her sister, Florence Turner; and her nanny and longtime family friend, Effie Heil.

She is survived by her husband Herb; daughter, Kim DeGust and husband Robert; son, Michael Kordis and wife Kendra; grandsons Stephen Hurlbut and wife Silvia, David Hurlbut and numerous nieces and nephews.

Services will be held at 2 p.m. Monday, Jan. 12, at the Cashion Christian Church followed by burial at Kingfi sher Cemetery under the direction of Sanders Funeral Service.
