Area cheerleading teams this weekend will try to make their return to the state competition.

The OSSAA is hosting regional cheer competitions across the state Saturday and all three local squads who compete were assigned to Chickasha.

That includes Crescent and Cashion in Class 2A and Kingfisher in Class 4A.

Also competing in 2A in Chickasha will be Wynnewood, Hinton, Vanoss, Elmore City-Pernell and Velma-Alma. Hinton is the defending state champion in 2A.

Joining KHS will be Bethany, Community Christian, Plainview, Weatherford, Tuttle, Christian Heritage, Crossings Christian, Purcell and Kingston.

Tuttle is the five-time defending state champion while Crossings Christian won Class 3A a year ago.

Class 2A will begin at noon.

Class 4A follows at 1:15 p.m.

The regional champion, runner-up and teams that score at least 75 points on a 100-point scale will advance to state.

The state competition is Sept. 28 at Oral Roberts University’s Mabee Center in Tulsa.
