Kingfisher’s eighth grade on Tuesday salvaged a win for the Yellowjacket program against Bethany on the football field this year.

The Jackets knocked off the Bronchos’ eighth grade 27-12 in Bethany.

Kale Hart and Cade Covalt accounted for two touchdowns apiece.

Hart had touchdown runs of 8 and 40 yards and also ran in a two-point conversion after his second score.

Later in the game, Covalt connected with Jake Reagan for a 35-yard touchdown which was followed by Eli Johnson’s extra-point kick.

Covalt capped the game with a 28-yard touchdown run.

One of Kingfisher’s scores was set up by Damien Haynes’ interception and 35-yard return.

Coach Doug Jech also commended the defensive play of Tanner Parker, Covalt and Ethan Karcher.

The win improved the eighth grade to 3-1 on the season.

Kingfisher’s seventh graders were dealt a 24-20 loss.

“It was a very hard-fought, back-and-forth game,” Jech said.

Will Mercer had a pair of touchdown runs, one for 10 yards and another from 5 yards out, and also ran in a two-point conversion for the Jackets.

Kingfisher’s other score was a 25-yard pass from Daniel Guerrero to Paytun Burnham.

Jech said Mercer, Guerrero, Burnham, Landon Rempe and Mason Alig had solid games on the defensive side of the ball.

The loss dropped the seventh grade squad to 0-4.

Both teams return to action Thursday when they host Perkins-Tryon.

Bethany JV defeated Kingfisher’s JV/freshman squad 28-21 at Kingfisher on Monday.

Jax Sternberger threw for three touchdowns in the defeat.

The first was a 22-yard stroke to Brayden States.

Later in the first half, Sternberger hit Dynton Townsend for a 94-yard scoring connection.

That tied the game at 14-all at the half.

Jud Birdwell got in on the action in the third when he hauled in a 40-yard TD from Sternberger.

Aaron Delatorre kicked all three extra-points for the Jackets.
