Two county baseball schools were in great shape for district championships after Thursday’s opening day.In Lomega, the Raiders won a 10-9 shootout against Timberlake and then run-ruled Cimarron 13-1.

Jackets win golf conference title

Kingfisher brought home two conference championships on Wednesday.The KHS boys golf team dominated the field at the Western Athletic Conference Tournament held at Prairie West in Weatherford.The Jackets turned in a 307, which bested runner-up Tuttle’s total by 19 strokes.

The Kingfisher boys golf team took fifth place Wednesday at the largeschool version of the Kingfi sher High School Invitational.However, the Jackets also placed first...at least among Class 3A teams in the field.KHS shot a 300 using the Maxwell format at Kingfisher Golf Course.

District play kicks into high gear for KHS soccer teams

Kingfisher got a taste of district victory before Heritage Hall came to town.The Lady Jackets shut down Newkirk 6-0 on April 6 to even their District 3A-2 record at 1-1.Kylee Rojas and Mya Dewberry scored two goals apiece while the latter contributed three assists in the road win.

The Cashion boys golf team had another strong showing at the Kingfisher Golf Course.The Wildcats took runner- up Monday in the Kingfisher High School Small-School Invitational.Cashion’s 316 was four strokes better than thirdplace Thomas’ 320.

Kingfisher’s Taylor Young was voted by her peers as the Oklahoma Coaches Association Region 1 Coach of the Year for girls basketball.In just her second season, Young guided the Lady Jackets to a second straight appearance in the Class 4A state basketball tournament.

A group of guys better known for their basketball skills are playing a variety of different sports this spring.Track wasn’t among them...until last Friday.“They came up and said they wanted to do some events, but really didn’t want to run,” said Kingfisher High School boys track coach Timmy Winans.

Lomega, Okarche to show off new facilities

Lomega and Okarche are going to have the opportunity to show off their new-look ballparks this month.The OSSAA announced district assignments for Class A and B baseball and all of slowpitch softball last week.Those assignments revealed that Okarche and Lomega will serve as host sites.
