Brian Richardson faced rebuilding efforts at his two previous coaching stops.Make it three in a row. Richardson was approved Monday as the new girls basketball coach at Hennessey High School.The hire was made during the board of education’s regular April meeting (see related story).
Much like the regular- season championships, Okarche swept the Most Valuable Player honors for the Three Rivers Conference.Senior Emma Stover was named 2022-23 MVP for the girls and freshman Jett Mueggenborg for the boys after a recent vote of the conference’s coaches.
Lomega’s Darcy Roberts was recently named the Most Valuable Player of the Cherokee Strip Conference.Roberts averaged 17.1 points, 8.0 rebounds and 3.5 assists a game during her senior campaign.Lomega was 29-3 and finished as the Class B state runner-up.
Matt Peck of Dover was named co-coach of the year in the Skeltur Conference.Peck just wrapped up his first year as head coach of the Lady Longhorns.Dover went 23-7 and advanced to the Class B area consolation semifinals.The Lady Longhorns were runners-up to Garber in the conference tournament.
A blustery north wind didn’t stop Allie and Abbie Justiz.The Bishop McGuinness duo on Wednesday led their team to a dominant win at the Kingfisher Large School Girls Golf Invitational.Allie Justiz shot a 4-under- par 68 and her sister a 72 as the Irish shot a team score of 317.
Diego Muñoz provided a shutout in goal to bring the Kingfisher High School boys a second straight win.Muñoz had 10 saves last Thursday as the Jackets earned a 1-0 victory at Harding Charter in Oklahoma City.
Two wins highlighted Kingfisher’s weekend as the Yellowjacket baseball team gets ready for the home stretch of the season.KHS defeated Putnam City West 7-6 on Thursday and Pauls Valley 14-7 Saturday in The Shed Classic being held at Homier Field.
