For more than seven years, fate was not on the side of Kingfisher High School’s basketball opponents at the All-Purpose Building.Finally, on Friday night in front of another full and rowdy crowd, fate came crashing down on the Yellowjackets’ epic home win streak.

Hennessey jumped out of Three Rivers Conference play on Friday.That jump delivered a 61-37 victory at Perry, the Eagles’ fourth straight.Jael Torres scored a game-high 19 points, including 14 in the first half.

If Kingfisher was going to get its second win of the season over Weatherford, the Lady Eagles weren’t going to let Peyton Walker lead the charge.

2023Kingfisher wrestler Aislin Barnett, center, won a state title last weekend in the girls middle school division at the 2023 Junior High All-State wrestling tournament at State Fair Arena. Barnett was one of three placers among KHS girls.

Local wrestling teams are off this weekend as the OSSAA will host dual state championships for all of the district champs.They’ll return to action next week, however, in hopes of landing their own spots at state.The girls wrestling regionals will be held Feb. 13-14.

The OSSAA last week released basketball playoff assignments for Classes A and B.Dover and Lomega will both host district tournaments in Class B while Okarche will do the same in Class A.

Three Kingfisher High School football players took the next step toward the next level last week.As a part of National Signing Day, the Jackets’ Wrigley Kennedy, Jax Sternberger and Noah Friesen signed National Letters of Intent.

Layton Choate is picking up in February where he left off in January.The Hennessey senior continued his torrid streak Thursday in the Eagles’ 6443 win at Cashion.Choate scored nine points in the decisive fourth quarter as the Eagles pulled away to move their season record to 14-3.

Even without Abby Swart, Lomega put on a shooting exhibition last week.The Lady Raiders made 16 3-pointers Tuesday during a 96-32 road win at Vici.Eight different Lomega players notched at least one 3-pointer and three of them made three or more.
