Some things are cause for celebration. The Hennessey High School girls cross country team will have a send-off down Main Street at 10 a.m. this Saturday. That’s because the Lady Eagles will be headed to state for the first time in four seasons.

Two full classes of Lomega High School boys cross country runners don’t know what it’s like to miss out on the state meet. The Raiders on Saturday qualified for state for the eighth consecutive year when they took fifth at the Class 2A regional at Waurika.

Coach Kerri Lafferty hardly thought she could be prouder of Chesni Newkirk than she was Oct. 10. It was on that day the Kingfisher High School freshman set a personal record during the cross country meet hosted by Oklahoma Bible Academy and Chisholm in Enid. Then last Saturday happened.

Tigers continue winning ways

Hunter Wilmoth did a lot on offense and his fair share on defense as Crescent racked up yet another win. The Tigers downed Oklahoma Christian Academy 22-8 in Edmond last Thursday night to move to 6-1 overall and 3-1 in District A-3.

Likely no game for KHS this week

As of press time, Kingfisher remained without a football opponent this week. “We’re still trying, but at this point it doesn’t look good,” KHS Athletic Director Jay Wood said late Monday afternoon. KHS was set to travel to Mount St. Mary on Friday for its Week 8 contest.

The OSSAA officially announced Tuesday a major change to its football playoff structure for this season only. Essentially, like basketball, everyone is in. If they want to be, that is.
