Junior high teams cap season with losses at Weatherford

For the second time this season, Kingfisher’s seventh grade football team suffered defeat in overtime. Weatherford scored on the second play of its overtime possession Monday to pull out a 22-16 victory over the visiting Jackets. The loss ended the seventh graders’ season at 3-5.

Crescent runs all over Watonga, 35-6

Winless Watonga wasn’t supposed to give Crescent much of a game in their Week 7 matchup. And it didn’t. Crescent dominated virtually every aspect of the game Thursday night to defeat the visiting Eagles 35-6. The victory improved the Tigers’ record to 5-1 overall and 2-1 in District A-3.

Big plays pay off

It appears nothing’s going to come easy as Kingfisher attempts to lock up a playoff spot in 2020. The Jackets took a big step in that direction Thursday night as they held off Perkins-Tryon 38-31 at home in a pivotal District 3A-1 game.

If you do things right long enough, it eventually turns your way. That’s the message Paul Hix has preached to his Hennessey Eagles since the beginning of the 2019 season. On Thursday night, things turned the Eagles’ way.

Kamas claims another OJGT title

A nine-stroke swing helped Maddi Kamas handily win her third Oklahoma Junior Golf Tour tournament of the season. Kamas fired an evenpar 71 Sunday at the Lincoln Park Golf Club West course in Oklahoma City to win the 2020 Best of the West Classic.

Jackets escape McLoud with narrow victory

True, Kingfisher got the win last Friday night when the Jackets resumed their district schedule with a 21-13 victory at McLoud. That doesn’t mean they left Pottawatomie County feeling too good about it.

PR-fect day on the course

Heading into last weekend’s meet, Kingfisher High School cross country coach Kerri Lafferty knew there was a chance for her runners to have individual successes. “Their course is pretty flat,” said Lafferty of the layout for Chisholm/OBA Cross Country Invitational on Saturday in Enid.
