There will be an All-State football game after all…at least for now. A contract is expected to be signed this week between the Oklahoma Football Coaches Association and Oklahoma Baptist University that allows the Shawnee school’s campus to host the annual All-State football game next month.

The Eagles Elite 2022 basketball team made its return to the court by winning tournaments in Norman over three weekends recently against teams from Oklahoma, Kansas and Texas.

Brysn Hunt and Skye Simunek won the top Eagle and Lady Eagle senior awards in sports for 2019-20. The honors were announced during a virtual announcement recently on the Hennessey Public School website.

The fate of fall sports - at least for now - appears to be trending in a positive direction.

Hennessey school board members got an earful last Monday night from one of the district’s coaches about inequity in extra-duty pay. Audience members also heard the complaints due to an agenda hiccup that caused discussion and action on all personnel matters in open session.

Perhaps the most select group of young golfers ever assembled in Oklahoma will take part Monday in a brand-new event on one of the state’s most storied courses. The Oklahoma Junior Masters will tee off at 11 a.m. at Southern Hills Country Club in Tulsa.

A local family raised money for the Oklahoma Medical Research Foundation with a 10th annual event. The Cross Family Steer Wrestling Jackpot and Benefit was held May 16 at the Kingfisher Roundup Club Arena at the county fairgrounds.

Recent Kingfisher High School graduate Riley Myers has one more preps award to collect. He’s just going to have to wait a year to do it. Myers last week was named the 2020 Oklahoma Coaches Association Male Athlete of the Year. He’ll receive a $500 scholarship and a plaque for the honor.

Mason Overstreet was named the SEC Men’s Golf Scholar-Athlete of the Year for the second straight season, the conference office announced Wednesday. Overstreet graduated from the University of Arkansas with a degree in business finance, posting a 3.88 GPA.

Oklahoma isn’t the only place Maddi Kamas wins golf tournaments. Kamas returned to competition earlier this month and made it a successful one with a five-stroke victory in the Bridlewood Spring Blast in Flower Mound, Texas.
