Lomega’s school schedule for Dec. 9-14 is as follows: Monday - Canton Basketball Tournament, high school girls vs. Cimarron at 4 p.m. Tuesday - Canton Basketball Tournament, high school boys vs. Okeene at 5:30 p.m.

Balanced freshmen pull away

A balanced attack and some sharp outside shooting gave Kingfi sher’s freshman boys basketball team a solid win in its season opener. The Jackets erased an early seven-point defi cit to dominate the middle two quarters and cruise last Monday to a 59-43 victory over Blanchard at the APB.

Dover swept at home by Waukomis

Dover had no answer for Cooper Wieden and Jasper Carter and that spelled the Longhorns’ fourth loss of the season. The Waukomis duo combined for 46 points as the Chiefs beat the Longhorns 65-50 Tuesday night in Dover. The pair scored 18 points as Waukomis got out to a 26-12 lead.

KMS squads split with visiting Blanchard

Two players scored in double fi gures and seven overall as the Kingfisher eighth grade girls remained unbeaten. The Lady Jackets dominated from the tip en route to a 37-25 win Monday against Blanchard at the APB. Peyton Walker scored 12 points and Siera Stitt 10 as Kingfi sher improved to 6-0.

Okarche opens TRC play with sweep

Okarche nearly let its conference opener slip away, but free throw shooting down the stretch kept victory in its grasp. The Warriors shot 10 of 14 from the foul line in overtime to outlast Watonga on Tuesday for a 69-59 road victory.

New Kingfisher girls coach Gerrett Spears is confident his team can get over the setback of losing its season opener. Another setback suffered last Tuesday night will be considerably tougher to overcome.

Title defense officially under way

A new era of Kingfisher High School boys basketball got a familiar result in its season opener. The Yellowjackets got standout performances from Matthew Stone and Bijan Cortes and they got more than enough help in a 58-40 victory Tuesday night in Newcastle.

Initial basketball rankings released

The first basketball rankings of the 2019-20 season were released Monday by ossaarankings.com. No Kingfisher County teams were ranked No. 1 although two of them received the most No. 1 votes in their respective classes in the polls that are voted on by coaches.

Ground and pound awaits CHS in semis

Pawnee may not be a one-dimensional football team, but the Black Bears are about as close as you can get. For Cashion to get to the Class A state championship game for the third time since 2014, the Wildcats will have to find a way to slow down unbeaten Pawnee’s run game.
