It's the Pitts

I’m 67 years old and thought I was a goner at 40. The Doctors thought so too. If you’d have offered me a deal back then that I could live to be only 45 years old I’d have taken the deal in a heartbeat. The thought of living to be 67 was crazy.

Cross country teams get look at regional course

Local runners got an extra glimpse of one of their postseason courses last week. Teams competed last Saturday in the Oklahoma Bible Academy/Chisholm Cross Country Meet in Enid. They’ll be returning there this Saturday for regional meets in Classes 2A, 3A and 4A (see story on Page 7).

Regional Saturday for XC runners

The cross country season’s finish line is near. County teams this weekend will compete in their respective regional competitions. Runners from Cashion, Lomega, Hennessey and Kingfisher will all tackle the course at Chisholm for their regional meets in 2A, 3A and 4A.

Luther avoids 3rd straight loss to Hennessey

Hennessey shocked Luther in the 2017 playoffs and the Lions were one of two Eagles victims last season. Class 2A’s ninth-ranked team made sure it wasn’t three in a row. Luther pulled away after a tight first quarter to hand Hennessey a 49-14 loss last Friday on the Eagles’ home field.

Cashion gets picky at OCA

Lynn Shackelford and Tony Wood are still upset. When your team wins 82-6, it’s tough to find fault, but the Cashion head coach and defensive coordinator, respectively, did. “I’m still upset they scored,” Shackelford said. Wood agreed.

KHS finds ‘quick start’ button

With one exception this season, Kingfisher’s starts to its football games have been, in a word, lackluster. “It’s been something we as coaches haven’t been able to put our finger on,” head coach Jeff Myers said.

Crossings too much for Crescent

Crescent had more plays than Crossings Christian School last Friday night. The Knights just made their snaps count more. Owen Crotts threw four touchdown passes as CCS toppled the Tigers 41-14 in Crescent.

Kamas finishes strong to claim OJGT championship

Even rust from a few weeks off couldn’t keep Maddi Kamas from the Tour Championship title of the Oklahoma Junior Golf Tour. Kamas shot a final-round 1-under-par 70 Sunday at Shawnee Country Club to claim the season-ending tournament title by two strokes with a two-day total of 144.

HHS can’t maintain momentum

One week after being nearly unstoppable, Hennessey’s offense went back into a shell as the Eagles stayed winless this season. Perry’s Mason Drake threw for seven touchdowns on his home turf and the Maroons defense put the clamps on HHS in a 58-0 victory last Friday night.
