The times they are a changin’

Five Kingfisher runners – three of them on the girls team – ran their best times of the season last week at the Watonga Cross Country Invitational. Katon Lunsford, Ashtin Witt and Dani Ramirez clocked their best times of 2019 on Watonga’s 3,200 meter course. Lunsford finished in 13:30.

Liles to shoot for GWR

A local pastor is aiming to set yet another Guinness World Record ths week. Jeff Liles will be shooting free throws for 24 straight hours beginning Friday, Oct. 4. His goal is to make 15,000 free throws alternating between overhead and “granny” style.

KMS 8th grade tops Bethany; Bronchos win 7th, JV contests

Kingfisher’s eighth grade on Tuesday salvaged a win for the Yellowjacket program against Bethany on the football field this year. The Jackets knocked off the Bronchos’ eighth grade 27-12 in Bethany. Kale Hart and Cade Covalt accounted for two touchdowns apiece.

Softball season comes to close

The 2019 softball campaign came to a close Thursday for the Kingfisher Lady Jackets. In a makeup game, KHS was shutout 4-0 on the road by Cushing in a District 4A-1 matchup. The loss gave the Lady Jackets a 16-18 overall record for the season and a 2-10 mark in the district.

KHS cheer dealt setback prior to Class 4A regional

Bad luck bit the Kingfisher High School cheerleading team before it even got a chance to participate in last weekend’s regional competition. A severe sickness took out one of the team’s point flyers the week before the regional which was held last Saturday at Chickasha High School.

Eagles show improvement in loss

Hennessey took steps in the right direction in the season’s third week. The Eagles just have a lot of steps to catch up. Starters returned to the lineup and Hennessey scored for the first time this season, but the Eagles were still dealt a 45-12 loss last Friday in their home opener.

Tigers no match for Cashion in ‘War on 74’

With each passing game, Ben Harman becomes a better quarterback. That’s the summation of Cashion head coach Lynn Shackelford after his team’s 47-6 dismantling of Crescent on the road in last Friday night’s version of the “War on 74.
