KMS 7th, 8th football report

The eighth grade Kingfisher football team closed out its week on a positive note Thursday with a 38-6 victory at home against Perry. Cade Covalt threw three touchdown passes, including a 45-yard strike to Jake Reagan on the first offensive snap of the game.

JH girls run strong at Bethany XC meet

The seventh and eighth grade girls teams from Kingfisher made a strong showing last Tuesday at the Bethany Bronchos Cross Country Meet for junior high teams. The eighth grade Lady Jackets won their division while the seventh grade girls were second in theirs.

A, B baseball ,softball assignments

The fall baseball and fastpitch softball seasons are nearing their finish, especially for small schools. District tournaments begin this week for Classes A and B in both sports. The districts must be finished by Saturday, Sept.

Lafferty updates Lions Club members on cross country season

KINGFISHER CROSS COUNTRY coach Kerri Lafferty, left, was the guest speaker last week at the Kingfisher Lions Club meeting. Lafferty updated the Lions Club members on the early successes of this year’s high school and junior high teams. Lafferty is in her third year as head coach.

KHS grabs 2 conference softball wins

Kingfisher rediscovered its winning ways on the softball diamond by sweeping a pair of Tri-County Conference foes. The Lady Jackets knocked off Pioneer-Pleasant Vale 13-8 and Waukomis 14-1 in games held at Waukomis Thursday night.

Checkmate for Cashion Chess

Cashion High School’s chess team took first place last Saturday at a competition held at Norman North High School. The team members combined to score 15 points (1 point for a win, 1/2 point for a draw or tie and 0 points for a loss in individual matches).

KHS softball fourth at Highway 81 Classic

Kingfisher took fourth place over the weekend at the Highway 81 Classic softball tournament. The Lady Jackets, taking a break from District 4A-1 games, finished the tournament with a 3-2 mark. “I thought even in the games we didn’t win, we played well,” coach Danny Green said of his squad.

Competitive cheer regionals Saturday

Area cheerleading teams this weekend will try to make their return to the state competition. The OSSAA is hosting regional cheer competitions across the state Saturday and all three local squads who compete were assigned to Chickasha.

Crescent manhandles OCA, 56-22

For the second time in three games, Crescent dominated the line of scrimmage against its foe. Coincidentally, the Tigers got their second win… in three games.

KHS gets runaway win over rival

Already in rebuilding mode when the season started, the Hennessey football team was further set back with a season’s worth of injuries in its Week 1 opener. That put the Eagles in damage control last Friday at Kingfisher.
