Kingfisher’s third meeting with Blanchard this season went the way of the first two. The only difference this time around? There was much more on the line. The Yellowjackets won a 4A regional championship for the second consecutive year Saturday by knocking off the Lions 73-39 at the APB.

Hennessey’s girls were eliminated from the playoffs with their 62-32 loss to Navajo Thursday in a regional consolation quarterfinal at Hinton. The Lady Eagles beat Hinton 56-42 last week in the district elimination game, but fell to Fairview in the district championship.

The Hennessey-Cash-ion rubber match is off. At least for now. Hennessey advanced to its Class 2A regional championship game in Area III Thursday night by holding off Merritt 69-66 in Hinton. The Eagles play Carnegie at 8 p.m.

Okarche won its third straight elimination game Friday by beating No. 12 Glencoe 46-27 in their Class A Area I consolation quarterfinal. That pitted the No. 9 Lady Warriors against Shattuck Friday afternoon in the semifinals. Shattuck beat Okarche 63-54 in last week’s regional.

Dominant second and fourth quarters helped the Crescent girls keep their season going. The Lady Tigers defeated Mounds 54-40 on the Lady Eagles’ home court in a 2A Area I regional consolation quarterfinal.

The first half of Kingfisher’s bid to upset Classen SAS went according to plan. The second half? Not so much. The second-ranked Lady Comets rode the shooting explosion of Micah Gray in the second half to pull away from KHS 56-25 in their Class 4A regional semifinal Thursday at the APB.

Top-ranked Kingfisher wasn’t struggling, but hadn’t exactly kicked it into high gear in the first quarter of its regional semifinal against Classen SAS. With one play, Bijan Cortes sent the Jackets into overdrive.

Could Cashion-Hennessey III happen in the playoffs? If both win Thursday night, it certainly will, only this time the stakes will be much bigger than their previous two showdowns.

Ray West has a coached a team to the state tournament. Aaron West has, too. But never have they done it together. With just one more win this season, that would change.

Lomega is in familiar territory and history is definitely going to repeat itself. The question is: Will it be the history that haunts the Lady Raiders from a year ago, or the more successful trips to area in the years prior?
