Kingfisher squads advance to Buckle semifinals

Weatherford pulled off the only upset Thursday in first-round action at the 17th annual Buckle of the Wheatbelt Invitational. The sixth-seeded Eagles handed third-seeded Chisholm a 57-34 defeat in the first boys game of the day. All other top seeds held suit in Kingfisher’s tournament at the APB.

Lady Raiders continue hot-shooting streak

Lomega got its final tuneup for its conference tournament Tuesday night with its fourth straight blowout win. Class B’s second-ranked Lady Raiders doubled up visiting Ringwood 80-40. “We shot it pretty well again tonight,” said Lomega coach Kevin Lewallen.

Tyrel McLane of Kingfisher and Barry Crosswhite killed this 360-pound wild hog, which has the characteristics of a Russian Boar, on a hunt along the river west of Watonga on Sunday. McLane appears behind the big hog along with Crosswhite’s hog dogs.

Okarche sweeps Thomas

Winning is the goal for any game and although it may not have been the prettiest of them, that’s what the Okarche boys got last Friday. Despite shooting 29 percent, the Warriors outlasted their hosts in double-overtime to pull away for a 68-60 win.

Lomega squads end week with flurry of home games

Drummond’s current win streak denied Lomega one of its own. The Bulldogs outscored the Raiders by nine in the fourth quarter to earn a 71-62 road win last Thursday night. The loss dropped Lomega to 11-7.

Kingfisher’s boys basketball team won a road game against Class 3A’s 15th-ranked team by seven points and everyone was left with one question. What happened? That’s the reality the Jackets have created, especially when the average margin in their previous 11 wins was 38 points.

Cashion girls get offensive in road win

Cashion’s girls avoided a losing streak - small as it may have been - with their second-highest scoring output of the season. Three Lady Wildcats scored in double figures as they toppled Wellston 66-52 on the road last Friday night.

Kingfisher junior high teams win 3 titles

Kingfisher’s junior high basketball teams brought home three tournament championships last weekend, including a sweep for the eighth graders at the Cashion-Crescent Junior High Tournament.
