Eagles dominate Meeker 58-6

Hennessey scored four offensive touchdowns and two on defense on Thursday night.

And that was just the first quarter.

The Eagles kept their perfect district record intact as they downed visiting Meeker 58-6.

Winners of five straight, the Eagles are now 5-2 overall and 4-0 in District 2A-II-1. With Cashion’s loss to Millwood on Thursday, only Hennessey and Community Christian remain unbeaten in the district.

Hagen Copeland kickstarted the Eagles with a 55-yard interception return against Meeker and the game was already essentially over. That was the beginning of a 38-point quarter for Hennessey, which saw the lead balloon to 51-0 by halftime.

The Eagles also saw Brayan Soto return a fumble 41 yards for a score in the quarter.

In between the two defensive TDs, Levi Ferrell had a 12-yard scoring run and threw a 10-yard touchdown to Brady Amburn and Alex Gonzalez added a 25-yard scoring run.

Soto got his second TD on a 14-yard reception from Ferrell by the end of the quarter.

The second quarter saw Ferrell throw a 43-yard touchdown to Copeland.

Copeland then made it the trifecta - TDs on offense, defense and special teams - when he returned a punt 36 yards for a touchdown.

Hennessey’s final points were a 1-yard TD run by German Martinez in the fourth.

The Eagles’ 179 rushing yards were led by Martinez and his 73 yards on 15 attempts.

Ferrell was 6 of 8 through the air for 92 yards and three TDs. Copeland caught three passes for 63 yards.

Meeker was led by Gunnar Enochs, who had 101 yards on seven rushes, but every other Bulldog had negative rushing yardage.

Two of the three passes attempted by Meeker were picked off.

Beau Vinson also had an interception.

Raiden Briley led the team with seven tackles.

Titan Root and Jameson Ladwig had five apiece.

Meeker is 0-7 after the loss. The competition picks up for Hennessey the next two weeks as the Eagles visit Cashion on Friday and host Community Christian in Week 9.
