Golf groups donate $13K to local causes
A round of golf in May is going to make for a better Christmas for several families in December.
And a nice, hot meal for many of the county’s elderly in January and beyond.
Members of the Kingfi sher Golf Association and Kingfisher Women’s Golf Association recently made donations totaling $13,000 to Kingfisher County Meals on Wheels and Santa’s Toyland.
The KGA presented checks of $4,000 to each group while the KWGA added another $2,500 each.
“They provide such wonderful and vital services to our county to people who truly need the help,” said Gary Wilson, club pro at Kingfisher Golf Course. “We’re honored to try to do a little something to make sure they can continue their service.”
The KGA hosts an annual benefit golf tournament in which 100 percent of the proceeds go to previously selected causes.
They have varied in the past, but one thing has remained important.
“We want to support some locally,” Wilson said. “A lot of groups do a lot of good right here in Kingfi sher and the surrounding communities, helping our residents, so we want to help them make it happen.”
This year’s benefit, the 11th one, raised $5,545.
The KGA kicked in another $2,455 to push the total to $8,000.
The KWGA also holds an annual two-ladies scramble to raise money and once again contributed another $5,000 to the selected causes. ( Note: See the KWGA ad in the Sunday, June 14, edition for a list of sponsors who helped make that possible.)
With this year’s contributions, the KGA and KWGA have donated more than $100,500 in the last 11 years.
“We are proud to do it,” Wilson said. “And we hope we can continue to do it for a long time.”
