Lunsford paces Jacket pack at Guthrie 5K race
Kingfisher joined the large schools last Friday morning in the fourth annual Clay Tarter Memorial Invitational cross country meet in Guthrie.
As a result, the girls ran their first 5K of the season, which suited senior Lily Lunsford quite well.
Lunsford placed 15th out of 64 runners to earn a medal in the event.
She also led KHS to a fourth place finish in a field of nothing else but 5A and 6A schools.
Yukon won the meet with 30 points, Guthrie was second with 44 and Stillwater third with 79.
KHS was next with 140, which was four points better than Putnam City West in fifth.
Lunsford finished the course in 21:36.64.
Freshman Kellyn just missed out on medaling as she placed 22nd in 22:38.26.
Medals went to the top 20 runners.
Rounding out Kingfisher’s scoring were Hinsley Brodrick, who was 33rd, Ryann Farrar at 39th and Roxana Padilla at 48th.
Chance Dunn was the top finisher for the KHS boys, who also ran a 5K.
Dunn was 68th and crossed the finish line in 20:55.25.
Kurttis Mark was 73rd in 21:16.36.
The teams are off this weekend before heading to Hennessey on Sept. 26 for the 13th annual Mike Driskill Turkey Creek Classic.
