A pair of seniors led the way as the Kingfisher High School girls placed sixth at Saturday’s Weatherford Sand Plum Invitational cross country meet.

Mattie Slezickey placed fifth and Lily Lunsford 17th out of 151 runners in the 1.5-mile race.

Slezickey finished the course in 9:31.38 and was second among runners scoring points for their teams.

Lunsford ran it in 10:00.40 and placed 12th among the scoring runners.

They were the lone Lady Jackets to earn medals, which went to the top 30 finishers.

The race was won by Oklahoma Bible Academy freshman Laney Janzen, who crossed in 8:46.41.

She was more than 36 seconds ahead of Cordell’s Calliy Walker, the runner- up.

KHS freshman Kellyn Young was 42nd overall (30th among scorers) and completed her run in 10:44.38.

Hinsley Brodrick was two spots behind Young in 10:46.56. She was 31st among the scoring runners. Her fellow sophomore Ryann Farrar rounded out Kingfisher’s scoring as she was 79th overall and 58th among scorers. She ran the race in 11:36.68.

Also for KHS, Rylee Long-Bush was 81st and Roxanna Padilla 101st.

As a team, Kingfisher notched 133 points. Weatherford won the meet with 70, which was 16 points better than runner- up Heritage Hall.

There were 16 full teams and 175 individuals in the high school boys race.

Chance Dunn was the first Jacket to cross the line in the two-mile race as the junior placed 82nd overall in 12:54.78.

He was 65th among scoring runners.

Kurttis Mark was 85th (67th) in 12:55.71 and Avery Burgess 95th (74th) in 13:23.33.

Cohen Wallace crossed next for KHS in 14:36.03, good for 134th (89th) while Aiden Marshall also scored with his time of 16:17.65, which placed him 151st (98th). Brantley Johnson placed 163rd in 17:20.11 The Jackets scored 393 points as a team. Weatherford won the team title with 61 points and North Rock Creek’s 70 were good for runner-up. Keon Lackey, the runner- up at the Kingfisher meet the week before, won the race in 10:16.84.

Like the high school, the junior high girls also placed sixth as they recorded 154 points.

Natalie Kirtley was responsible for exactly 1 of those points as she won the one-mile race that featured 157 runners.

Kirtley’s time of 6:15.17 edged Darlington’s Violet Romannose by about 1 second.

Kingfisher’s Olyvia Cooper was just four seconds back of Romannose and placed third overall.

Patyn Kroener, Maitlyn Tollefson and Selena Altamirano also scored for the Lady Jackets.

The middle school boys had four runners, one shy of a full team.

That group was led by Deon Racelis, who placed 68th out of 124 competitors. He ran the 1.5-mile track in 12:04.90.
