When you cover the six Kingfisher County schools and Crescent and the tradition-rich programs some of them have possessed over the course of 20-plus years, you’re going to come across some great players.

Four county teams will be vying for OK Kids baseball state championships this week. The Kingfisher Blue Sox and Okarche Warriors will be taking part in the 10-under tournament at Sallisaw. The 12-under bracket at Weatherford will feature the Kingfisher Yellowjackets and the Hennessey Eagles.

Several winners - and their turtles - emerged victorious during the annual turtle races hosted by the Kingfisher Lions Club. The races were a part of the Fourth of July festivities at Kingfisher Park, which were staged July 3 this year.

Oklahoma Eagles Elite, which features players and coaches from Cashion, won six straight games at the Edmond Prep Hoops Finale Showcase.

Cashion High School cheerleaders recently competed in the Jeff and Craig Commuter Camp in Norman and received a number of team and individual awards and honors.

Florence Elizabeth (Naberhaus) “Flo” Wood passed away at the age of 90 on July 3, 2021, at Hennessey Nursing Home & Rehab Center. She was born Sept. 15, 1930, to William and Catherine Naberhaus in Okarche. On April 3, 1951, she married Louis P.

Last week was the “dead period” in Oklahoma, which is unofficially the one week during the summer when parents and coaches of junior high and high school athletes are allowed to vacation without fear of retribution (that’s a joke, sort of).

Maddi Kamas is still racking up honors for her high school career. The recent Kingfisher High School graduate on Monday was named the girls golfer of the year during the OKC Metro High School Sports Awards show.

Kingfisher’s Braxton Mecklenburg has earned a spot in the AAU Track and Field Junior Olympic Games. Mecklenburg took second place last weekend in the high jump at the AAU Region 16 National Qualifier at Bentonville West High School in Arkansas.

A number of area high school athletes earned All-City honors for their performances during the spring sports seasons. All-City teams are compiled and announced by The Oklahoman’s staff. It includes student-athletes from Oklahoma County and its adjoining counties.
