Four local teams advance to OK Kids state tournaments

Four county teams will be vying for OK Kids baseball state championships this week.

The Kingfisher Blue Sox and Okarche Warriors will be taking part in the 10-under tournament at Sallisaw.

The 12-under bracket at Weatherford will feature the Kingfisher Yellowjackets and the Hennessey Eagles.

The Blue Sox and Warriors won their respective regional tournaments last weekend.

The Blue Sox won a seven-team bracket in Woodward while Okarche won at Weatherford.

Their state tournament began Tuesday (after press time) and the teams were in different brackets.

Okarche took on Vian Tuesday night in the Blue bracket. Joining them in the Blue bracket are

Joining them in the Blue bracket are Shawnee, Elk City, Anadarko, Ada, Stigler and Sallisaw.

Kingfisher played Latta in the Red bracket, also on Tuesday night.

Also in the Red bracket are Coalgate, Blanchard, Shawnee, Byng, Stilwell and Sallisaw.

Two teams from each double-elimination bracket will be pitted against each other in Saturday semifinals (Blue #1 vs. Red #2 and Red #1 vs. Blue #2).

The winners of those semifinal games play for the state title in a winner-take-all game at 5 p.m.

In 12-under regional action last week, Kingfisher won the tournament it hosted at Briscoe Park.

Hennessey was the runner-up in the Washington regional.

Like the 10-under tournament, the 12-under tournament has Blue and Red brackets with two teams emerging from each.

Kingfisher is in the Blue bracket and played Tishomingo at 6 p.m. Tuesday.

Also featured in the Blue bracket are Stillwater, Elgin, Blanchard, Durant, Sallisaw and Clinton.

Hennessey took on Red Oak at 2 p.m. in the Red bracket.

Other Red bracket teams include Ada, Cushing, Elk City, Davenport, Talihina and Weatherford.

Semifinal games are 1 and 3 p.m. Saturday and the winner-take-all title game is at 5 p.m.

It will also feature group photos of players and coaches for all four respective teams.
