Different-look wrestling regionals this weekend

Wrestling’s postseason begins this weekend as grapplers vie for their spots in the state tournament. Regionals will be taking place statewide Friday and Saturday, although the format has been changed from its normal routine. This year, the seven lightest weight classes will be wrestled on Friday.

Comeback bid falls short against ‘Darko

Kingfisher didn’t win. But the Lady Jackets also didn’t wilt. KHS lostits third straight game last Friday when 4A No. 2 Anadarko visited the APB and left with a 50-40 win. It was only the fourth time Anadarko (16-2) had given up at least 40 points this season.

Late scoring woes cost KHS girls

Scoring struggles in the fourth quarter kept the Kingfisher girls basketball team from pulling off a top-10 upset. Harding Charter Prep outscored KHS 17-7 over the final eight minutes to pull out a 45-40 victory in Oklahoma City.

Cashion topples Hennessey in big TRC matchup

Cashion strengthened its grip on the Three Rivers Conference title Thursday night... and did it against another top-10 foe. Class 2A’s fourth-ranked Wildcats played suffocating defense all night and built a big enough cushion to hold off No. 6 Hennessey 43-34 at home.

Caldwell hits milestone in DHS win

Joriaun passed a career milestone and led the Dover boys basketball team to its fourth straight win in the process. Caldwell scored 29 points Tuesday as the Longhorns defeated Pond Creek-Hunter 71-52 at home. The scoring total helped Caldwell pass 1,000 points in his Dover career.

Multiple changes made by OSSAA as wrestling postseason approaches

The OSSAA recently announced changes to the wrestling postseason. In years past, the dual state championships were held the second weekend of February followed by the regional tournaments and then the season culminated with the state tournaments the final weekend in February in Oklahoma City.

Trio of Wildcats bring home Hub City wrestling hardware

Progress is something Cashion wrestling coach Steven Wilson is looking for from his new program. He and his wrestlers experienced some of it last weekend. Three Wildcats took fourth place in their respective weight classes during the 2021 Hub City Classic Wrestling Tournament in Clinton.
