Cashion’s basketball teams spent most of last week searching and searching for someone to play. Like most teams, they’d experienced a rash of cancellations and if they couldn’t find an opponent or two for later in the week, they’d be looking at a three-week stretch between games.

Lomega has won what it hopes is the first of four postseason championships. The Lady Raiders had little resistance last Friday as they defeated Dover 97-35 at home to lay claim to a Class B district championship.

Coach Justin Edsall was hopeful his Lomega boys team would take Dover seriously in their Class B district championship. The Raiders opened the seasonwitha36-point win over the Longhorns, but Edsall knew this was a different Dover team visiting on Friday.

While three county schools move into the regional round of the basketball playoffs this weekend, the four other local schools will begin their own playoff runs. Kingfisher, Hennessey, Cashion and Crescent all take part in district tournaments this week.

The regional wrestling tournaments originally scheduled for last week were postponed by the OSSAA. The tournaments were to take place statewide last Friday and Saturday, but inclement weather plus the potential for even worse weather caused the postponements.

Despite not playing in more than two weeks, the Okarche Warriors were able to impose their will on a pair of district opponents. The Warriors claimed a Class A district championship at home Saturday afternoon with a 72-30 victory against Drumright.

Agra and Carney... thanks for coming. The Class B basketball district championship games at Lomega were an all-Kingfisher County affair thanks to the host school and Dover.

Three Kingfisher County gymnasiums will serve as main regional sites when the basketball playoffs get under way.

The battle of contrasting styles went Kingfisher’s way. Class 4A’s No. 1-ranked Yellowjackets jumped on Anadarko early and largely kept the pace in a 64-35 home win last Friday. Kingfisher upped its season record to 18-1 with its 13th straight win.
