Dakota James Conner was born July 17, 2020, to Justin and Michelle Conner. Dakota was an answer to all their prayers. In his short time on earth, Dakota loved our Oklahoma warm weather, mommy and daddy’s cuddles and his brother’s comforting touch.

Margie Thompson

Services are pending for Margie Lou Thompson, 79, Hennessey. Margie was born Dec. 25, 1940, in Loyal to Orville “Son” and Marcella Garms Turner and died Monday, Aug. 24, 2020, at St. Mary’s Regional Medical Center in Enid. Margie married Melvin E. Thompson in Hennessey on June 3, 1960.

A RIVALRY IS RENEWED

Dover’s third win of the season - and second straight - came at the expense of another county team as a rivalry was renewed last week. The Longhorns went on the road last Tuesday to knock off Lomega 14-6. That win came after Monday’s 12-0 victory at home over Cimarron.

Cushing takes 2 from KHS in district softball doubleheader

Kingfisher was short-handed Monday in a pair of district softball losses at Cushing. Better yet, the Lady Jackets were short-armed. With starting pitcher Olivia Wilcox home sick, the Lady Jackets dropped 11-3 and 13-2 decisions to Cushing.

When Jacob Frost first spotted the owl, he was hanging limp and apparently lifeless, twisted tight into the top two strands of a barbed wire fence nine miles east and a half mile north of Hennessey.

County’s First COVID-19 Death Reported

The county’s first death from COVID-19 complications was a 79-year-old woman who died Monday and was among 65 confirmed positive cases at the Hennessey Nursing and Rehabilitation Center.

Customers benefit from billing error

An electricity billing error has cost Kingfisher an estimated $65,000 in lost revenue, but City Manager Dave Slezickey said utility customers won’t be asked to pay the difference. “We have been billing for winter rates for April, May, June and July usage,” he said.

County discusses fire hose grant

Kingfisher County commissioners heard a report from Kingfisher Fire Chief Tony Stewart regarding pursuit of a grant to replace the department’s outdated hose Monday at their regular meeting.Stewart said the department has been operating on old, used hose and needs new hose.

County fair scheduled Wednesday-Saturday

The Kingfisher County Fair will start on Wednesday, with all Exhibit Building entries due from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. Livestock exhibits will be accepted as indicated in the schedule below.
