School continues to make upgrades in AND out of the classroom

For most schools, summer means three months devoted to maintenance, improvements and upgrades.

While some stores already are filling shelves with holiday decorations, soon-to-be college or trade school students are making lists and buying things they will need to outfit their new dorm room or apartment.

Kingfisher’s Henry Ellyson-Keith Lowry American Legion Post benefits from two pieces of state and federal legislation signed into law last week.
The first is House Bill 1003, sponsored by State Rep. Mike Sanders of Kingfisher, which gives American Legion posts an exemption from sales tax.
Groundbreaking for Hennessey’s $2.1 million swimming pool and bathhouse is planned for the week of Aug. 13, said Tiffany Tillman, town administrator.
“We’ve been promised we’ll be open on Memorial Day weekend,” she said.
Center of Family Love CEO Debbie Espinosa was honored with the Notre Dame Club of Oklahoma City Person of the Year Award at a July 25 banquet.
“This honor is reserved for a person who clearly demonstrates the spirit of Notre Dame,” Mike Milligan, club treasurer, said during the presentation.
Drought is on the horizon for the western two-thirds of the state by the end of August.
Although Kingfisher is only 1.31 inches away from its annual rainfall average in 2019, it has received only .59 inch of rain for July. Local Weather Observer Steve Loftis has recorded 34.
