When retiring Kingfisher Chamber of Commerce manager Judy Whipple first started working as a part-time receptionist at the chamber office in 2000, she didn’t think any job in her diverse employment history necessarily qualified her to work in economic development.

The bitterly cold and icy weather that set in last week probably put the fix to the last hope area residents held out for the early spring promised when the nation’s official ground hog didn’t see his shadow on Feb. 1.

Bree Taylor of Kingfisher and Katie Bomhoff of Okarche were named among 100 high school seniors in the state as 2010 Academic All-Staters by the Oklahoma Foundation for Excellence.

Devon Energy recently made a donation to the Kingfisher STARS after-school program that teachers say will allow for more hands-on learning for students. Devon employees were on hand to donate a Maker Space Mobile Storage Cart.

Hennessey Fire Department was a recent recipient of a donation of more than $15,000 by the owner of the local wind farm.

The Okarche High School speech team completed qualifying competition by winning the 3A sweepstakes trophy recently at the Crescent High School Speech Tournament. OHS had six students compete in the last qualifying tournament of the year.

Ray and Aaron West felt they had the ace up their sleeves. They were just waiting for the right time to play it. The Okarche coaches did so at just the right time Thursday and it landed the Warriors in the state semifinals.

Courtney Fox bobbled her dribble, squeezed past a defender and let a 25-foot shot fly. The Lomega senior’s heave found its mark as the buzzer sounded and while it had no significant impact on the game, it was further proof that it was Lomega’s night.

Hennessey legend Leon Crosswhite was honored - and surprised - recently when it was revealed the town would post highway signs declaring it “Home of Leon Crosswhite/1972 All-Big 8.” The signs will be posted at all four major entrances into Hennessey (U.S. 81 from the north and south and S.H.

Scoring droughts have plagued Kingfisher throughout the 2018-19 season. On Thursday night, one helped end it. The Lady Jackets went without a point in the second quarter and scored just six over the middle two frames in a 45-27 season-ending loss to Weatherford in Washington.
