Devon offering STEM grants to 2 western Oklahoma teachers

Devon Energy has created new  Ingenuity Teacher Development Grants supporting teachers’ pursuit of additional training in science, technology, engineering and math (STEM) education. The grants will expand teacher resources and improve learning across the state.

Lomega pays tribute to first basketball teams

Lomega High School paid tribute to its very first basketball teams on their 50-year anniversary. Members of the 1969 basketball teams were recognized during Lomega’s home game with Timberlake on Feb. 1. Loyal and Omega schools consolidated for the 1968-69 school year, forming Lomega.

EGP provides funding for OSFA during recent presentation

Enel Green Power North America (EGP), the state’s largest operator of wind energy, announced recently it will provide $35,000 in funding to the Oklahoma State Firefighters Association (OSFA) to support fire departments across the state.

Rotary hosts pair of seniors

Shelby Townsend and Keeley Price, seniors at Kingfisher High School, were guests recently at the Kingfisher Rotary Club’s weekly meeting. Townsend is the daughter of Chris and Michelle Townsend. She’s a certified nursing assistant (CNA) and is active in HOSA.

Fred Uhlenhake

?? Fred William Uhlenhake was born July 27, 1928, to Frank and Augusta Uhlenhake (Unverzagt) and passed away Saturday, Feb. 9, 2019, at Mercy Hospital in Oklahoma City. He grew up in Kingfisher and attended Sts. Peter and Paul Catholic School.

Tom Birkes

?? Tom Birkes, 89, Kingfisher, passed away in the early morning hours of Jan. 28, 2019, at Mercy Hospice. Tom was born May 18, 1929, in Tulsa Oklahoma to Mattie and Fred Birkes. Tom grew up in Dover.

Edward ‘Ed’ Kretchmar, Jr.

Edward (Ed) Marion Kretchmar, Jr., 68, passed away at his home surrounded by his children on Feb. 7, 2019. He was born in 1950 to EdwardandAlice(Hoskins) Kretchmar in Okarche. ›Ed married Joanie Schoelen in 1972 and they had two children: Candace and Mark Kretchmar.
